Letter from E.Myers

  Dear Colleagues,

The management of the salivary gland disorders has taken a great leap forward since the introduction of the technique of sialendoscopy in the early 1990s.  It was first introduced to the medical world in Geneva in 1995.  Dr. Francis Marchal had been at the forefront of continually developing, improving, and promoting the treatment of salivary gland disorders using this new procedure much to the benefit of these patients.

In many instances, open surgery and the removal of calculi or the entire parotid or submandibular gland was the standard of care.  Sialendoscopy now is a form of minimally invasive surgery which allows the diagnosis and management of patients with acute and chronic salivary gland disorders.  In my book, "Salivary Gland Disorders", we feature several chapters on this topic, therefore adding an additional measure of authenticity to this procedure.

I personally invite you to attend the first International Sialendoscopy Conference in Geneva in March, 2012 which will bring together those who are the leading specialists in sialendoscopy.  Dr. Marchal has added a systematic educational feature which has been quite successful in training more than 600 physicians from 54 countries in this technique.  The International and European Salivary Gland Societies will be supporting this conference and adding further luster to this meeting.  This will provide an unparelled opportunity for those in attendance to learn the techniques of sialendoscopy and its role in the management of salivary gland disorders.
